Executive Bios

VISTA Staffing Solutions is the physician staffing division of On Assignment, Inc., one of the largest healthcare and scientific staffing companies in the US. VISTA provides hospitals, medical practices and government agencies throughout the US, Australia, New Zealand, Bermuda, and Canada with highly qualified physicians who have chosen to work in temporary positions, from a few weeks to a year or more. VISTA also provides permanent physician search and consulting services.

VISTA is headquartered in Salt Lake City, Utah with additional offices in Atlanta, Georgia, and Cary, North Carolina. The division employs more than 160 people.

VISTA Staffing Solutions was founded in 1990 by Mark S. Brouse, president, Katie Hoffman-Abby, executive vice president, and Clarke Shaw, senior vice president.

Mark S. Brouse

President

Mark S. Brouse is president of VISTA Staffing Solutions, one of the largest temporary physician staffing or locum tenens services in the nation. VISTA works with physicians from just about every medical specialty and is the only locum tenens company that provides both domestic and international opportunities. The company provides a great deal of physician staffing assistance to governmental agencies. VISTA has also launched a permanent physician recruitment business and a private licensing program for physicians. VISTA Staffing Solutions is a founding member of the National Organization of Locum Tenens Organizations (NALTO), an organization that develops and enforces standards for credentialing, ethics, and business practices within the locum tenens industry.

Mark focuses on developing innovative partnerships with the hospitals, health systems, and community-based practices that VISTA serves to help them make physician staffing a strategic advantage. He played a lead role in the development of effective professional liability insurance programs for this unique industry. As a founder of VISTA, he is committed to creating a culture that puts people first and gives them the incentive to think and act like company owners.

Mark received a bachelor's degree in chemistry from California State, Dominguez Hills. He began his career in locum tenens with CompHealth in 1986, overseeing internal medicine and psychiatry teams. Mark is a member of the boards of directors of the YMCA of Greater Salt Lake, the Utah Healthcare Institute, and PEHR Technologies.

Katie Hoffman-Abby

Katie Hoffman-Abby is one of the first VISTA executives tapped to lead other areas within the On Assignment family. In addition to overseeing VISTA's Physician Search and Consulting and Physician International Divisions, she is now leading On Assignment Nurse Travel. Katie is an experienced operations manager and contributes to division-wide training, mentoring, and management programs as well. She helped develop the standards for physician recruitment, credentials review, and matching with appropriate practices that shape the entire locum tenens industry to this day.

Katie worked as a physician recruiter for CompHealth, a large locum tenens staffing company, for more than five years prior to co-founding Salt Lake City-based VISTA Staffing Solutions in 1990.

Katie is past president of the National Association of Locum Tenens Organizations (NALTO), an association she helped found to establish and enforce standards for ethics and sound business practices within the locum tenens industry. She is a member of the board of directors of International Volunteers in Urology, an organization that provides education and health care worldwide. In 2006 she spent three weeks in Tibet as a volunteer for One HEART, an organization that trains physicians and birth volunteers on sterile birth techniques and emergency rescue measures. An avid fitness enthusiast, Katie has created a wellness culture within VISTA that makes fitness and health a priority for employees and physicians. No doubt this culture will spread to the offices of Nurse Travel. She has completed the Wisconsin Ironman, the Boston Marathon, and countless other events.

Clarke W. Shaw

Senior Vice President

Clarke W. Shaw is responsible for VISTA's US locum tenens operations, overseeing physician recruitment, credentials review, licensure, scheduling, territory management, and national accounts management. In this broad role he specializes in identifying the information employees and customers need to do their jobs most effectively and making that information easily accessible.

He received a bachelor of science degree in accounting from the University of Utah in 1978, and served as president of Wave, Inc., a soft-goods manufacturing company for 10 years, before joining CompHealth. In 1990, he launched VISTA Staffing Solutions with co-founders Katie Hoffman-Abby and Mark Brouse. Clarke is a member of the public relations/marketing committee of the National Association of Locum Tenens Organizations (NALTO). He is the coach of a state-champion boy's competitive soccer team in Salt Lake City.
