Help Desk Specialist

Area of Responsibility:

Provide computer, phone and other telecommunication support for VISTA staff members at all locations. Utilize your technical expertise to support users of VISTA's proprietary business application, software programs, and hardware, including Microsoft Office products, Outlook, and Cisco phone equipment. Be the "go to" person who keeps over 180 employees productive and happy.  Ensure internal customer satisfaction and our company's success by balancing personal, responsive service with good systems for prioritizing, following up, and following through.   

Essential Requirements:

  • One to two years post high school education with emphasis in computer and/or office equipment or procedures, or a related field and/or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Two years experience in customer service or sales with an emphasis in computer operations (preferably in the staffing area) or equivalent.
  • Excellent phone skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the following:
    o  Use Microsoft Office products i.e. Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel. Explain and/or educate employees on how to maximize the functions of Microsoft Office programs.
    o  Ability to master VISTA's proprietary application and help others maximize its potential.
    o  Excellent organizational skills with the ability to listen and follow up, attend to detail, and accomplish desired results verbally and/or in written form to appropriately document issues. Prepare reports as needed.
    o  Demonstrate a "helping attitude" by phone and/or in person. Provide appropriate feedback so communication is shared and updated with all customers on a consistent basis.
    o  Ability to research questions utilizing a variety of manuals and resources, and ability to work with IT staff in answering any customer questions.
    o  Ability to perform phone training - teach features such as speed dial, messages, paging etc.
    o  Ability to solve problems and differentiate IT vs. help desk/training issues.
    o  Flexibility to perform unscheduled assignments during and after peak hours, keeping records and files current and accurate.
    o  Ability to maintain and utilize spreadsheets, word processing software and PC diagnostic tools in order to answer typical user questions independently.
    o  Ability to maintain accountability for property; adhere to safety practices.
  • Ability to work as a dependable, self starter, capable of performing under pressure to meet company deadlines as the services performed affect the ability of others to do their work. Ability to work with moderate supervision.
  • Ability to develop and maintain excellent communications and work effectively during the performance of assigned responsibilities.
  • Project desired company image and demeanor, and willingness to fully support the company's mission.
  • Willingness to sign an employment agreement.

Preferred but not required:

  • Work experience with the following technologies:
    • Windows 7
    • Windows XP
    • Microsoft SharePoint Server
    • Microsoft Server 2003
    • Microsoft Exchange
    • Active Directory
    • Numara FootPrints or other Help Desk software
    • Experience working in a Microsoft domain environment

Physical Demands:

  • Receive, process, and maintain information through oral and/or written communication effectively.
  • Substantial physical movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
  • Must be able to sit for long periods of time.
  • Capable of lifting 50 lbs.
