The VISTA Approach
Ensuring the quality and compatibility of doctors is the most important aspect of VISTA’s approach to international locums placements. Here’s how we go about it:
- 1
We'll develop a comprehensive profile of your organization and open position(s)
We'll work closely with you to define the clinical skills and experience you need and how the position fits within your organization. We place all types of doctors, from general practitioners to specialists, and from the recently trained to those with decades of work experience.
- 2
We'll evaluate interested candidates for the best match
After initial interviews, we coordinate with the doctor to complete VISTA's application package. The doctor provides VISTA the following information:
- A completed application that includes personal data, undergraduate and graduate degrees, postgraduate medical qualification, licensure (registration), references and releases, disciplinary proceedings (if any), and the doctor's indemnity history.
- A complete, current curriculum vitae that accounts for all time periods. The CV includes a doctor's professional experience, medical training, and current licensure (registration).
- A scope of practice, which is reviewed by VISTA to determine the best skill match for a doctor and client when we arrange placements. We share these with you so the skills that a doctor is competent in may be better understood.
We collect and review documents, including a doctor's medical education and postgraduate medical qualification certificates, state licensure certificates, specialty board certifications, and applicable certifications for the doctor's medical specialty. We then make an overall assessment of a doctor's competence by reviewing his or her formal qualifications, training, clinical competence, and professional experience. Visit our Credentials Verification page to learn more about the process.
- 3
We'll check references
We speak with a minimum of two verbal references before we begin discussing a doctor's qualifications with organizations like yours. We complete at least four references before a doctor is placed.
- 4
We'll introduce you
VISTA will set up and facilitate a teleconference between your organization and the doctor you are considering. If all goes well we will consult with you as you develop an offer letter, including compensation, benefits, relocation, and travel assistance.
- 5
We'll assist the candidate with registration/licensure and immigration
We've developed strong relationships with 50 state licensing boards and countless medical societies in the US. We've built on that experience to develop effective processes to get doctors working in your country, where and when you need them. Once you indicate an interest in a doctor, we'll immediately begin processing registration/licensure paperwork, helping him or her with every step. Once registration is approved, we will process immigration paperwork (unless these two steps can be managed concurrently, which is preferred).
- 6
We'll get your doctor there and make sure all goes well
VISTA has a full-service travel department that will help coordinate travel for the doctor and his or her family if applicable. Most host healthcare organizations offer our doctors initial assistance with housing and transportation while they settle into the assignment and country. We'll make sure all goes well, stay in touch throughout the assignment, and begin work finding the next great doctor you need.
