Emergency Medicine - New Zealand, North Island, Tauranga

Hospital Details:

  • Hospital provides health services to the people of the Western Bay of Plenty. A secondary hospital, it provides level 4-5 services including medical, surgical, pediatrics, obstetrics, gynecology, and mental health.
  • The hospital is also a base for a range of associated clinical support services and allied health, such as rehabilitation, speech therapy, physiotherapy, stroke and cardiac support, district nursing, and drug and alcohol programs.
  • There are 324 beds, including the Special Care Baby Unit, Maternity, and Mental Health. Around 209 are available for medical and surgical patients (including critical care and coronary care) with a further 58 for children and older people. Twenty four beds are designated for mental health patients.

Regional Information:

  • Tauranga is a vibrant, coastal, cosmopolitan city with a rapidly growing population of approx 120,000 with a median age of 38.1 years.
  • The case mix is diverse with a relatively high acuity, reflective of our demographics, with presentations topping 40,000 per annum.
  • Applicants should be committed to the provision of excellent patient care, teaching, and quality improvement. The applicant will be expected to participate in rostered shifts and after hours on call.

Living in Tauranga gives you easy and quick access to the superb Whakapapa and Turoa ski-fields, the Rotorua lakes, hiking, fishing, climbing, mountain biking, and is 2.5 hours from Auckland. It has international airports both within an hour's drive at Hamilton and Rotorua.
