How Healthcare Leaders Can Leverage Workforce Optimization

Beckers-Podcast-Blog-How-Healthcare-Leaders-Can-Leverage-Workforce-Optimization

Healthcare leaders have different ideas on what workforce optimization is and why it is essential to their healthcare system. Understanding contingent staffing needs, providing in-demand clinicians to your facilities, and knowing what is costing the healthcare system, can be overwhelming, especially in today’s challenging and changing environment.

These leaders are also continuing to face an ongoing challenge, physician shortage. The shortage isn’t a new challenge but does create a cascading effect within the facilities. Leaving management to turn to contingent staffing to meet their needs. The more contingent staffing is utilized, the more time and effort healthcare facilities must pour into managing staff, which leads to the need to control staffing costs.

VISTA’s own Chief Operations Officer, Andrea Nelson, sat down with Becker’s Hospital Review to talk about the changes happening in healthcare during this unprecedented time. During the podcast, they discussed:

-How staffing levels impact the patient experience and affect market share
-New technologies utilized to cut costs and better manage staffing plans
-How reporting and analytics can ensure the transparency of staffing costs
-How Telehealth utilization is growing to provide care to under-served populations, as well as protect patients and providers

Andrea Nelson explains that those facilities that strategically leverage workforce optimization get a deeper understanding of where there may be opportunities to lower spending and receive full transparency in the true costs. With workforce optimization, it opens up a real opportunity for robust discussion around the areas that could lower staffing levels, expand service lines, and be more profitable within the healthcare system.

The podcast further explains that those facilities that do not optimize their workforce strategy will have a significant impact on the patient experience, which all healthcare systems are very, VERY interested in tracking. If they do not optimize staffing levels and see where they may have the opportunity to add service lines or get a full optimization out of the organization, there is a slim ability to drive profit.
